The air of silence washed over the entire room as Sho and Yuuto sat there eating. The request from Yuuto to call him by his first name would come up, but each time, it would end up exactly like right now - awkward. Sho felt terrible for not giving in to Yuuto's request. He wanted to, but part of him couldn't do it. He knows Yuuto is trying and doing what he can to make amends. Sho is willing to acknowledge that. However, there was a reason he was keeping the wall up between them. The internal struggle he had with that reason was something he was trying to figure out on his own. It always weighed heavily on him because he kept it to himself. The silence between them was palpable as they sat there, continuing to eat. Sho was lost in his thoughts, and Yuuto seemed lost in his world.

Then suddenly, Yuuto finished eating first and got up from the table, turning to Sho, who blinked in surprise when told that he'd be right back. He didn't say anything. He only nodded and finished the rest of his meal. At first, Sho thought that maybe the other had gone to the restroom, but then pondered on that a bit longer and believed Yuuto was upset at him for not responding to his request. He couldn't help but sigh, running his fingers through his hair. This made him feel more terrible than he already did. He knew Yuuto wanted things between them to return to how they were when they were students, but Sho wasn't there yet. He didn't know when he would be emotionally. Everything was just happening so fast that his mind couldn't keep up with it all.

To take his mind off his thoughts while Yuuto was away, Sho got up from the table, brought his empty glass with him, and walked toward the counter where Yuuto had left the wine bottle. It was rare that he ever felt the need the drink more than what he was in the mood for, but in this case, the green-eyed young man did not want to be left alone with his own thoughts. Grabbing the bottle, he filled up his empty glass and, without hesitation, downed it instantly. He'd done this twice before coming to the realization that he'd had way too much, and he was finally starting to feel the alcohol affect him a little bit. He didn't even realize Yuuto had returned and just gave him a blank and empty stare. His face was flushed from the alcohol in his system, and he felt embarrassed about that. Now, he was causing more problems than either of them needed.

"Shit..." was the response he gave, placing his hand against his head as it lightly began to pound. It wasn't as bad as the stuff Sadie usually had that had him with a massive headache, but that still didn't mean he felt better. "Gomen," he apologized, carefully placing the glass on the counter, then slowly began walking, attempting to leave. "I s-should go," he mumbled as he tried to walk past Yuuto, only to almost trip over, but luckily, he managed to grip his hand on the wall of the entryway of the kitchen to avoid a catastrophe.

Yuuto glares at Shouta intensely.  He is awaiting a response.  Yuuto thought Shouta was going to say he accepted his apology for assuming he was going to the convention to work followed by calling him Yuuto.  Instead what he got was a mumbled lack luster response.  Yuuto feels his heart drop with sorrow creeping in.  It is clear Shouta still doesn’t want to call him by his first name.  Yuuto drinks more wine before looking down at his plate.  Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. Yuuto is aware he can’t force their friendship to go back to the way it was.  It will never be the same as they are no longer teens.  They are full grown adults with different experiences that have shaped them into the people they have become.  Even with Shouta not being completely open to Yuuto he likes Sho still.  He will always see him as someone who is to be close him.  Someone he will look out for.  Yuuto finishes his meal in silence.  He is satisfied but can’t help himself fixing another glass of wine.  Yuuto doesn’t realize how he is trying sooth the budding emotions inside of him.  He stands up from the table after drinking his glass half way down.

“Excuse me, I will be right back,” he informs Shouta.  “Please help yourself to anything you want while I’m gone.  I won’t be long.” Yuuto wants to give Shouta an encouraging smile but he knows in this moment it would be forced.  All he can think of is how Shouta is not comfortable with him enough to use his first name.

Yuuto heads to his room with Sarada trotting behind him.  He is surprised she didn’t stay behind trying to get the attention of Shouta.  She has taken a liking to him.  That makes Yuuto feel good as Sarada doesn’t trust easily like himself.  It shows she finds him worthy of being in their space.  Yuuto walks to his nightstand grabbing his laptop.  He sits down on his bed opening up the laptop.  Yuuto swiftly goes to the convention website to book the hotel for that weekend.  The hotel is pricey but he expected as much since they are staying at the hotel the convention is taking place.  I swear the more simple things are the more they try to butt **** you on the price.  The rooms were going fast.  Yuuto managed to get one.  Had he not had his card info saved on his computer he doesn’t think he would be so lucky.

Yuuto sighs closing his laptop.  He wants that sad feeling to go away.  It shouldn’t be such a big deal but to him it is.  Yuuto can hear all the thoughts fighting back and forth in his mind.  Self loathing thoughts versus positive thoughts.  Shouta doesn’t want you to be his friend while the positive thought is Shouta is going to spend a whole weekend with you.  Yuuto hasn’t felt this in years.  Why does Shouta always have to bring these old ass emotions out of me.  He stands up feeling his buzz which is much welcomed considering how sad he was moments ago.  Sarada meows causing Yuuto to look her way.  She is on up on his bed walking over to him.  Animals can be in tune with their owners.  Sarada must sense he is off.  She rubs against him causing Yuuto to rub her head making her purr.  “I’m fine.  I’m going back to the main room, come on.”  Yuuto drops his hand with Sarada hopping off the bed following him to the front of the apartment.

“Sorry, to leave you alone for a while”, states Yuuto.  “I have booked the hotel for our weekend at the convention.  Nice hotel of course.  We have options to order room service for breakfast and dinner if we like.  Although I think going out to explore the area would be more fun.”  Yuuto doesn’t mention lunch knowing they will more than likely grab something while they are out.  “Are you done eating Sho?”  Yuuto is inquiring so he can put up the dirty dishes into the dishwasher.

Although Yuuto had said what he did softly, Sho was able to hear what he said. He was telling him that he could address him by his first name since they weren't strangers. It was fairly obvious Yuuto didn't like being addressed by his surname, and that was to do with his disdain for his stepparents' interfering in his life since the day he was placed in their care. While it is customary for people to address others by their surname out of respect for the person, there were times it was fine to call them by their first name if that's what they wanted. The problem with that is that Sho never called Yuuto by his full first name, only a shortened rendition of it, because they were close friends back in junior high.

The other never complained that he had an issue with being addressed as 'Yuu-chan', so that's what he'd always called him. Sho was an adult now, not a teenager. It seemed childish and inappropriate to call Yuuto that. Even addressing him by his first name seemed difficult but for different reasons. 'I know we're not strangers, but I don't feel comfortable calling you by your name. Don't ... ask me to do that,' Sho thought with a small frown. He chose not to respond to Yuuto's request. He instead responded to what he'd said after. "Hrn," was his response as he ate more food from his plate.

There was that awkward silence again. It wasn't intentional, but usually, specific topics and requests caused Sho to shut Yuuto out. It wasn't hard for Sho himself to realize he was having an internal struggle. He didn't want to mentally and emotionally drain himself regarding his past and present with Yuuto, so he would always focus his mind on other things, just like he was doing right now. He was going to focus on having fun at the convention. He wasn't opposed to going with Yuuto since he'd invited him to tag along for the weekend of the event. So that's what he was going to do. Have fun.

Yuuto relaxes as he watches Shouta begin to eat.  This makes him glad.  At least Shouta was relaxed enough to enjoy the meal he prepared.  At least Sho wasn’t around during the growing pains when he was learning to cook.  He has some failed attempts so bad he had to toss out the meal.  Feodora helped providing him a few tips.  Otherwise YouTube was his teacher.  Yuuto begins to eat some of his own food while sipping his wine.  Although things are silent for a minute he doesn’t mind.  He wonders will it always be this way between them.  He remembers when they were younger Shouta being the one to speak constantly.  He was always so excited like a new puppy exploring the world for the first time.  Yuuto grins hoping they will get back there at some point.  A point where Shouta is open to him.  He is taken from his thoughts as Shouta says he understands.  He still gets me. Before Yuuto can even celebrate on inside Shouta follows up with how Yuuto assumed he was talking about work.

Was he not talking about work?  Shouta explains how he is wanting to form new connections, make associates.  Yuuto mind is buzzing with thoughts.  Shouta has always been friendly and open.  The main reason he didn’t have friends back when they were young was no one understood his interests.  As an adult Shouta seems to struggle to connect to others. Why is that?  He’s such a good person.  All he has to do is let them see that.  Yuuto take a deep breath grabbing his wine.  He takes a sip being reminded he is the reason Sho had little trust in people.  Surely Shouta has improved since that day but Yuuto knows learning to trust others is hard.  Had he not known Shouta before this he wouldn’t be this open.

“You can call me Yuuto,” he replies quietly.  “I’m not some stranger.  I apologize as I did assume you were referring to work.  It’s the main thing I know about you right now.  You focus on work and school.  This is the first time I heard you mention wanting to make new connections.”  Yuuto feels a sting of jealousy.  There is nothing for him to be jealous of.  Shouta can have friends.  Meeting new people is good for him, healthy even.  Yuuto shakes off the feeling refocusing his mind. “Thank you for opening your mind up to the fun we are going to have at the convention.” Yuuto begins to eat and drink more of his wine.  He found himself suddenly nervous.  He can’t get the thought of Shouta forming new connections with others out of his mind.  He oddly finds himself wanting to keep Shouta to himself.  This is not healthy.  I’m attaching myself to him.  I need to stop this but how?  Yuuto decides he will deal with those thoughts following the convention.  He doesn’t have time to disrupt their budding friendship.  It feels like they are getting somewhere.  Slowly but it is still progression.

Sho hadn't thought about focusing much on working while attending the convention. The only thing he would do is try and find some downtime to write if he could, but if he couldn't, he wouldn't worry about it and just focus on having some fun since it'd been a while since he'd had any. It didn't cross his mind to go out of his way to promote his story, which was currently in production. Rather, he wanted to make new connections in the form of meeting new people. Sho always felt like he was hanging out with the same group of people, and he wanted to actually try putting himself out there to befriend new people who don't have annoying and weird habits. His classmate and friend, Haruka, who was also a creative writing major, was the only one who didn't have any weird and annoying habits. Outside of his strange interest in writing murder mystery stories and taking great pride in annoying the hell out of their professor with them, he was a fairly normal person.

But since he'd been busy as of late, Sho hadn't been able to really hang out with anyone. So he understood Yuuto's concern regarding his focus on work instead of having fun. The intention of going was to have fun, and if he had downtime to spare, he'd try to write a little bit. Of course, he didn't want to say that out loud since Yuuto was worried enough about him not taking any time off. Sho could admit to not doing that. He wasn't fooling around with his studies. He really wanted to graduate and fully focus on his writing career. But even he needed to unwind sometimes. As he sat there, he finally decided to eat the food Yuuto had cooked for them. He'd only ever eaten takeout whenever the two were together, so this would be the first time he'd eaten anything he made. It was very delicious. He had no complaints. He took the time to swallow his food before speaking again. "I understand, Usui-san," he said to him.

"However, I think you're assuming I was talking about work when I said I wanted to form new connections." Sho took the glass of wine in his hand and finished what remained in the glass before setting it back down on the table. "I want to meet new people. I'll probably be so focused on enjoying the convention that I won't have any free time to write anything. But it isn't a main focus so it's not something I'll be worried about needing to do. As you said, we just need to focus on having fun." Sho scratched the side of his face lightly. While he should be used to being around Yuuto, he still can't help but feel awkward at times around him. Having discussions regarding the two of them having fun was still not something he was used to hearing initiated by Yuuto.

Strangely, it reminded him that this was something he wanted back then, when the two of them were still close friends, for Yuuto to be more engaging and energetic. Now that he was, Sho didn't know how to respond, much less deal with it, and he just always felt awkward. 'It doesn't help that he says things that could easily mean something else,' Sho thought, his cheeks flushing again. Referring to Yuuto inviting him over for dinner and how it felt intimate while knowing this was just casual between them. Besides, Sho isn't unfamiliar with obvious implications ... except for when it comes to Yuuto. He couldn't tell if what he was doing or saying was him trying to work on preparing their friendship or something else that he really didn't want his brain to think about right now. Saying nothing, he just ate some more food while waiting for Yuuto to respond. If he'd allowed his mind to wander any further, he'd be reminded more of things he didn't want to think about.

Yuuto has to turn away for a moment.  He’s so cute when he blushes.  Yuuto mind goes to more than one place whenever he sees Shouta’s flushing cheeks.  Yuuto groans inwardly touching his own cheeks trying to get himself to calm down.  His heart begins to work harder as Yuuto is beginning to realize something is changing between him and Shouta. If I don’t admit it, I can ignore it. Yuuto cheeks are now tinted as he continues to deny his budding emotions towards Shouta.  Yuuto is brought back to the conversation at hand as Shouta expresses he is surprised that Yuuto is going out to have fun.  He can’t help but smile at his friend as he takes a sip of wine.

“You are correct,” admits Yuuto.  “I am a workaholic.  It helps to keep my mind busy.” Since running into Shouta it has changed Yuuto’s brain chemistry in a sense.  Yuuto finds himself thinking a lot.  Some of it good and some of it uncomfortable.  Such as memories of his biology dad.  Working helps take his mind off such thoughts.  Plus working makes him feel closer to Shouta.  Since Shouta has a contract with his job they are connected.  Knowing Sho dreamed of creating his own comic since they were teens and he is living it is incredible.  Yuuto knows Shouta would have been successful without him but he is glad to have things move forward at a quicker rate.  Shouta is getting more exposure and gaining more of a fanbase through this contract.  Even if it is not renewed it is certainly worth it at the end of the day. “It is time I took some time off.”  Yuuto chuckles.

“You sound so much like me like me when I began working,” he says leaning back into his chair.  “Although you are going to have fun you are also aiming to network.  Networking is a form of working.  I won’t stop you from expanding your reach but I think you should let loose Sho.  You are doing more than anyone we have a contract with.  If I can let go during this trip so can you.”  Yuuto knows Shouta can handle a lot.  Granted they weren’t friends for years but he can see Shouta handles stress and a heavy schedule very well.  Even more reason why he is pushing for the other to relax.  “I don’t want you to burn out okay….please try to chill.”

Yuuto closes his eyes for a moment trying to calm himself.  It is a fact he doesn’t go this hard for any personnel they have a contract with.  However those individuals take time off.  They know how to pace themselves.  Shouta is hungry, eager to succeed.  Yuuto has a feeling he may have to force Shouta to take a break and he is hoping it doesn’t come that.  His friend is an adult and should make this decision on his own when to relax.

Sho's cheeks became flushed as Yuuto compliments him on the effort he puts into his writing. He didn't find it to be that big of a deal. He just took writing very seriously. He made it a point to write a well-thought-out story that flows for readers to enjoy. It's not the traditional type of story the publishing company has since the department Yuuto worked for focused on rom-coms. He could write a rom-com story if he wanted to, but Sho had no interest in doing so. Besides, he only had his group of friends that he could base ideas on, and even then, he wouldn't classify their relationships as healthy. Messy in his mind. At least he can say the group orgies finally came to an end when hanging out with them on occasion. He'd been too busy to do so as of late, what with graduating next year nearing and focusing on completing his story.

If he hadn't taken the deal, Sho knew he wouldn't be this far along. He'd only gotten this far with Yuuto's help and persistence in getting him to accept the deal. He was on the fence about doing so because the two of them had a prior history, but so far, it hasn't gotten in the way of him working. They only ever talked about work, and there were few instances where they talked casually together. He got the feeling Yuuto probably wouldn't have believed he'd agree to come over for dinner. He's partly right about that, but he also knew he couldn't keep running away from his past with him. It's not as if they got into an argument whenever they saw each other, and contrary to when they first crossed paths, Sho didn't hate Yuuto. It was more or less getting used to the idea of having him back in his life after not being in it for years.

It was a strange feeling, but he was getting used to it little by little. Yuuto comments on how he mentioned a close friend of his, aka Sadie, who seems to look out for his best interest. She does, and he appreciates her for that; even if she is a very strong extroverted person, he's gotten used to it but can still find it overbearing. Yuuto also noticed that Sho seemed to have a lot on his plate, and there was no denying that. He did do a lot, but that was because he was serious about becoming a writer. He couldn't just slack off and not work on the weak areas in his writing and improve on them. He always valued the opinions of his readers when he posted the story online. He took their ideas and thoughts into consideration and would go back and revisit areas of the story and rewrite them.

It helped encourage him to keep going. It would seem that Yuuto did the same. To his knowledge, he was working with other authors and doing the art for them, but with him, he was merely spearheading the project and assisting when and where it was needed. 'I really wouldn't be here without him. Strange, it reminds me a little bit of when we were in junior high. We wanted to do a story together. It almost feels like that, even if he's working behind the scenes,' Sho thought, taking another sip of wine. After a moment of silence, he sat his glass back down to speak since he'd been quiet a little too long. "Ah, so you want to go for fun? It's unlike you, Usui-san," Sho replied. "I've seen you do nothing but work, so I never knew if you took time off to do anything." He wasn't around Yuuto all the time, so he assumed he just did nothing but work. It's a harmless assumption, and he meant nothing by it.

It did amuse him a little to see the other excited about going to Comic Con. Sho just knew he did need to take a breather and do something fun. "I want to go and have fun. Buy some things to add to the collection of stuff I already have," he said. "I don't know about letting loose. It's really not in me to do that but I can expect to enjoy going and meeting some new people to exchange contacts with."

Yuuto can tell there is a lot of Shouta’s mind.  I hope he is not thinking about work.  Yuuto has plans to get Shouta’s comic to accumulate more sales.  He has to run his ideas past upper management.  Yuuto doesn’t see why they would turn it down.  This is going to help them get a return on their investment.  Yuuto wants approval from upper management first before setting up a meeting with Shouta.  He wonders what Shouta will think of his ideas.  Yuuto will find out soon enough.

“I can see that,” replies Yuuto sitting down his wine glass.  It makes perfect sense that Shouta lost track of when the con was happening. “You work very hard on your craft.  Even before getting this deal, you put in a lot of work.  Your dedication shows greatly.” The comic book and manga world is hard to break into.  Most people have started working on their own but it is not an easy task to do.  There has to be writers, editors, artists, colorists and more.  Sho was managing to do that while going to school.  He is still pushing himself even now.  Yuuto is impressed which is hard to do for him in the professional world.

Shouta explains had Yuuto asked him to come over for dinner he would have said yes.  Yuuto himself is not sure about that.  They have only spoken in pasting.  It is obvious that Sho has some walls still up but others are down.  The fact he decided to stay for dinner and have a glass wine shows his growth.  Yuuto can’t help but smile at the progress that has been made.

“Your friend sounds like they are looking out for your best interest,” says Yuuto after much thought. “At times I feel like you stretch yourself thin.  I honestly was hoping you would take some time off for the summer.  On the other hand I can’t blame you for pushing forward.  I did just that and have no regrets.”  Yuuto was able to get his own place, his own car without his stepparents.  Of course, neither of them was impressed by Yuuto getting everything on his own.  Yuuto stepmother's face was cold while his stepfather was slightly surprised.  He couldn’t get out of that house soon enough.

Oh, thank god. Yuuto is happy to hear that Sho is okay with going to the comic con for 3 days.  He nods not able to hide his relief.  Yuuto has made a lot of strides but he still likes to avoid big crowds if he can.  Then comes the question Yuuto was waiting for.  Is this private or personal?  Definitely personal.  Why does it feel so intimate to me?  Maybe it is because he was my best friend.  His friendship is important to me in many ways. Yuuto pushes his emotions down not wanting to be overtaken with flushing cheeks.  There is nothing for him to be shy or embarrassed about.  It’s just two friends going out to enjoy the comic con.  No big deal.

“It is for fun,” replies Yuuto.  “For a change, I want to be able to enjoy the comic con instead of for work.  I need a break as well.  Can’t recall the last time I took a vacation.  My paid time off is maxed out.  I may take the week off…”  Yuuto is still thinking about if he wants to take the week off.  He mid as well.  He knows Sarada wouldn’t mind spending some time with him.  It would be a good idea to recharge his mind and body.  “With us going together I am more than excited.  Might find some nice collectibles.  Who knows.” Yuuto is not one to purchase collectibles as he doesn’t like to have a lot of items.  The collectible would have to mean a lot for him to make a purchase. “Do you have any expectations or are you going to let loose during this con?”  Yuuto grabs his glass taking a sip.

Sho accepted the glass of wine from Yuuto once he'd finished pouring it. He took a couple of sips from it before setting the glass down on the table in front of him. "Normally, I wouldn't, but I've been so busy that I haven't thought much about other stuff that isn't related to what I'm doing." His mind had been on getting more chapters written for his story so the artists behind the scenes working on the illustrations could get everything done and put out. At most, Sho took small breaks in between, but when he wasn't writing, he was doing something else, whether it be school related or working at Sadie's bookstore now that he had some time in between to work there. She was excited about the idea of seeing his story finally out for people to buy and read it, and of course, she wanted it to be sold at her bookstore. Sho had no problems with that.

His book was maintaining average sales, so the pickup and interest outside of those who were familiar with the story already were slow. But from what Sho had been told, his book was at least selling out more in print in comparison to another manga that was maintaining the spot of the top twenty popular new manga. His book took spot twenty, knocking another manga that was in that spot further down that list. Sho was just happy that people liked his book. He was giving his readers what they wanted, which was an exciting story with interesting characters that are fighting together to achieve one goal. He didn't know if Kageyama Publishing was going to renew their contract with him despite some sales improvement, but Sho had a backup plan in case they don't. In the meantime, he'll just keep doing what he's already been doing.

Sho was brought out of his thoughts, hearing Yuuto apologize to him for not being honest and telling him up front he cooked dinner for the both of them. Outside of that being weird and random, Sho didn't see an issue with joining him for dinner if he'd asked him. It was hardly a surprise, though, and the Yuuto looked as if he'd done something wrong by doing all of this. But he seemed to recover from his mild moment of self-appointed shame and resumed the conversation between them. "It's fine," Sho replied. "I just said if you had asked, I probably would've said yes. It's not as if I'd eaten dinner yet. Only breakfast and lunch today," he told him. He grabbed his glass of wine and took another sip before speaking again. "Even I overdo it sometimes. I have one friend that seems to chastise me about that." He was referring to Sadie as he had to inform her that he had to take fewer shifts last semester because his schedule was already jammed packed with stuff he had to do, and he'll work when he can.

He explained everything to her, but she made him swear he'd let her sell his book in her store. How could he say no to that? But he did need to take a break since he hadn't taken a real break away from everything to just relax. Sho didn't know what that felt like anymore. "We can do three days. I don't necessarily need to be there an entire week. I'd get burnt out too quickly if I stuck around for that long." It wasn't impossible for one to stay an entire week for a comic con and have fun meeting all sorts of people from fans, seeing cosplayers, participating in relatively dumb fun activities, and a lot of other stuff as well. Fun, but the novelty wears out quickly. However, since he hadn't been to a con in a while, Sho saw no harm in going. "Are you wanting to go for fun, or are you going to have a table set up promoting stuff from the publishing company?" Sho asked.

Yuuto is grateful for his glass of wine.  If not for this he doesn’t know if he would even be able to speak. I need to get out of my own head.  Yuuto glances at Shouta as his mind is swarming with thoughts.  He can’t help but smile as he grabs another glass for Shouta.  He begins to pour the white wine.  Yuuto noticed that Shouta is aiming to talk him with him.  His responses are a little short but an improvement for the past few months.  Yuuto can’t believe Shouta worked today.  Even if for a little while he preferred for Shouta to rest.

“I would expect you to forget about the comic con,” Yuuto says handing Shouta his glass.  “You have been working really hard.  I hope you decide to take the time off.”  Yuuto sits down at the table across from Shouta.  “I apologize for not telling you I cooked dinner.  I wanted it to be a surprise.  Um, surprise.”  Yuuto drops his head covering his face.  I am blowing this or what.  I mean what’s to blow though…..  It’s just dinner.  He lifts his head crossing his legs gracefully picking up his glass.

“I admire you for working, going to school and you have this contract to deal with,” he states.  “It’s a lot.  You have been doing well but I can see you are exhausted.  Hopefully this evening you can rest.”  Yuuto takes a sip from a glass.  “I barely take off from work my sister.  Feodora scolds me constantly about that.” Yuuto smiles knowing his sister would indeed be proud about him taking some time off.  “Would you like to go for the whole week or just certain days?” Yuuto wants to know what days he should pay for.  He finds his stomach doing little flip flops.  He drinks to settle his nerves.

'Kind of figured this was casual and not business,' Sho thought. It did seem rather odd to come all this way to Yuuto's apartment about work. Guess a part of him was hoping it would be about work. Since it was casual, now it was just awkward again. He'd never admit it out loud, but a part of him wanted to be able to talk to Yuuto normally, but he didn't know how to do that. Because of it, it just always turned into an awkward silence between the two of them, which was more anxiety-inducing for him. On top of that, he's constantly reminded about the times they hung out when they were students and would be overwhelmed with a feeling of nostalgia. Yuuto told him before he was going to work hard at mending their friendship, and he was doing that in ways where the intent felt the opposite of that. Maybe his mind was reading too far into it. 'Sh-Should I even bring up that his actions feel rather ... intimate?' he wondered, standing there awkwardly as he didn't take his eyes off of Yuuto, who had also been intently staring at him before moving toward the kitchen.

"M-My day was fine. I just worked for a little while at my friend's bookstore," Sho finally spoke up. "Since it's summer, I'm taking fewer classes before the following semester where I'd take the rest of what I need in order to graduate. I have the extra time to put in some hours at the bookstore and write." His response was related to work; he didn't want to stand there quietly and not talk at all. It's not much of a conversation if Yuuto is the only one contributing. Plus, he went out of his way to prepare food for both of them to eat, which made Sho feel a little bad about wanting to be in a hurry to head home. Outside of getting some writing in before retiring to bed, he didn't have anything else of importance to tend to. His homework was already done, so he didn't have to waste time working on it later.

This was an opportunity for them to talk more, and they weren't able to casually interact much outside of work. He would've preferred it if Yuuto had said that in his text instead of letting him assume that he was to come over to discuss business related to his story. The sales were average, which is to be expected. He had to tell the readers online that he could no longer post new chapters on the platform, but they would be serialized and available for purchase. At least they were excited to be able to own a physical copy of his story. It made him happy to know he had fans willing to put their time and money into supporting him. But this wasn't his only goal. This was just the first step in what he wanted to do. To do that, he would eventually have to talk with Yuuto about it at some point, but there is a better time for that. He didn't want to sour the mood with the discussion either.

Yet he couldn't help but say what was on his mind. He stood there next to the island in the kitchen as Yuuto began to prepare himself a drink while asking if Sho wanted one as well. "Um," he started awkwardly, shifting his gaze to look away from the other male, "If you wanted me to join you for dinner, you could've asked. I may have said yes if you'd been more upfront," he said. "I'll take a small glass of wine." Sho wasn't a big drinker, but he wasn't against the idea of drinking. What he didn't like was when people drank themselves stupidly and began to do stupid things while under the influence. After a while, he decided to take a seat down at the table, his hands in his lap, and his heart suddenly began pounding. 'Why am I so nervous around him when we're alone together?' He was snapped out of his thoughts as Yuuto proceeded to move the conversation further along.

Glancing up, he listened intently as the other mentioned the Comic-Con event that was happening this month. Sho had completely forgotten about it. Not because he wanted to forget but because his mind was focused on other things. It was only for so long, but he had planned on wanting to go to it. He just forgot. It seemed that Yuuto wanted to go and ... wanted Sho to join him. The invitation was tempting, and he would have to make plans to set aside some free time. He knew Sadie would understand and give him the days off he wanted. Although, he knew if she were told about the Con, she'd want to go herself. Sadie was very big into cosplay—more into it than the rest of their friends. At least he knew she'd have fun, though. So he couldn't complain. As for himself, it had been a while since he'd enjoyed doing anything fun, so there was nothing stopping him from accepting the invitation. And the thought of going to Comic-Con did put a smile on his face. He hadn't been to a local convention in forever.

"I suppose I could use the break. I forgot about the Con, to be honest," Sho admitted.

Yuuto feels slightly terrible.  He wonders if he is staring at Shouta too long.  It’s been a while since he seen him.  They haven’t spoken much outside of work.  He actually misses him.  Yuuto can’t help but make note of how tired his friend appears.  Shouta stumbles an adorable hello that almost has Yuuto blushing.  It is the fact that greeting reminded him of their younger years.  Shouta walks into his apartment glancing around taking in the sights.  Sho does slide his shoes off making Yuuto further comfortable.  That is faltered as Shouta asks him outright why did he ask him to his place.  It was in a tone as if he wanted to get and out of Yuuto’s apartment.  Yuuto noticed Sho never even responded to his question about how his day went.

"I’m guessing you had a good day,” says Yuuto. “Before we get to that I did cook us something to eat.  I fixed chicken stir fry with rice and veggie eggrolls.  I recall you being a lover of veggies.”  Yuuto guides Shouta to his kitchen. “I was hoping we could have a conversation first, chat a little bit before we get around to why I asked you over.”  Yuuto takes a moment to think.  Shouta doesn’t appreciate people who play games.  Yuuto certainly isn’t playing games.  He wants to spend time with Shouta.  Is that so wrong.  Shouta does appreciates when people are honest, upfront.  I respect that.  Let me give him what he needs. “I’m sorry I’m going to grab a drink, you want any?”

Yuuto nerves have begun to get to him.  He opts for wine not wanting anything heavy.  A lot of people think alcohol is alcohol.  It is simply not true.  They can all affect you differently.  Wine gives Yuuto more of a calm buzz.  He is very much alert, present in the moment.  Liquor is usually a gamble for him.  He can easily come out of his body.  Yuuto can get to the point of blacking out which terrifies him.  That use to not happen.  Makes him feel old despite being so young.  The blackouts only started occurring in the past year. Yuuto pops a bottle of prosecco wine.  He grabs a wine glass pouring.  Once his drink is settled he walks back over to Shouta who is standing beside his kitchen island.

“Thanks for waiting,” replies Yuuto.  He takes a quick sip.  “I know we usually speak for work related items.  Not that I mind but me inviting you here is personal.”  Yuuto would never invite an employee to his home.  Shouta is not just an employee but a friend.  Yuuto is becoming anxious by the second.  It feels like he is asking Shouta out on a date but he isn’t.  He wants to go out and have fun with someone’s company he enjoys.  “There is a comic con coming to town this month.  I have always wanted to go but for obvious reasons I didn’t…..”  Anything comic related always reminded Yuuto of Sho.  He can handle it for the sake of his job but being at such an event without the one person he knows would love to be there was too much for him to handle.

“I want you to take a chance and go with me to the comic con.  I wasn’t sure how long you would want to be there or if you want to go at all with me.  I haven’t brought tickets but I can.  Just say yes and I will get everything set up for us.” Yuuto doesn’t need to be there the whole week.  He is fine with attending for the weekend.  He would like to purchase a room on site.  This would allow Shouta and him to order room service breakfast or to go downstairs to fix their own meal.  Options are always good in Yuuto’s eyes.  He actually has to look away from his friend’s gaze.  He sips his wine feeling more calm.  Yuuto is hoping he didn’t sound too pushy, too deseprate.  It’s hard to hide how much he wants Shouta by his side at the comic con.  The ball is in Shouta’s court now.  All he can do is wait.

It was summer now, and though it was not a requirement to do a summer semester of classes, Sho preferred to as not to want to dawdle in graduating. But he took it easy and only took three courses which left him the rest of his day to himself to do whatever, whether it was working on his story or working at Sadie's bookstore, which was a six-hour shift. He was trying to earn and save as much money as he could. It didn't matter the shift as long as he knew he could work it, and it wouldn't interfere with anything else he was doing. He felt bad that he couldn't work at the bookstore as much, what with his focus on being a full-time student and working on his story for the Kageyama Publishing Company. Since he agreed to sign the contract, his life and time have been rather busy and hectic.

Thankfully, Sadie was an understanding boss and never got on his case about it. She knew that school was far more important focus, but she would always say she'd help him out if he needed her. Sadie's done more than enough for him. He couldn't ask more of her. Ryu has been rather quiet lately as well. Sho had no idea what was going on with him and thought about reaching out just to make sure he wasn't getting himself into anything dumb again. It usually turned into him dragging him out for a drink and to meet women. Terrible. Not his scene. He was thankful that he wasn't dragging him out to do that as often as he was when they were in high school. Though Ryu did apologize to him for it, so there was no need to be angry with him about it.

All in all, his summer was pretty lax. Even today, while working at the bookstore, things there were going fine. Customers were decent. He normally stocked the shelves with merchandise but would, from time to time, work the registers if needed. It was a lot busier, what with most schools being out for two months for summer, and many tourists and everyday patrons would come by to hang out and pass the time by. A pretty easy day. He was even able to relax on his lunch break, getting a bit of writing in while eating a sandwich. That's when he received a text from Yuuto asking him if he could come by his place if he wasn't busy. That's right. He'd almost forgotten he'd still have to interact with him every so often since he's in charge of his story getting serialized.

But it was also much deeper than just them interacting and discussing his story. The two of them were still reconciling things between them. It felt strange, and there was no denying that it was bothering Sho. It was stirring emotions and feelings he'd long forced himself to forget about, and he didn't know what to do now that Yuuto was in his life again. They were adults now, and it was different. He meant it when he said he didn't hate him. But what did he feel about them reconnecting? Sho couldn't answer that question because he didn't know how to. As troublesome as it was, he kept this to himself since he wasn't in the mood for anyone making a joke out of this and not taking it seriously. He just ... didn't know how to talk to Yuuto the same way when they were in junior high.

There's so different now. Sho continued to contemplate his answer before responding. He told him it would have to be after he's finished with work which he seemed fine with, so once he'd finished his lunch, he focused on stocking the merchandise for the remainder of his shift. When his shift ended, he collected his things, adjusting the straps of his backpack to be more comfortable as he exited the breakroom. He said good evening to everyone before going on his way. Then he stood at the nearest transit stop to wait for the next bus that would take him where he needed to go. It was a five-minute wait which he'd spent informing Yuuto that he was on his way and checking the time on his phone. He got on the bus and road it the entire time while staring out the window.

He wondered what Yuuto wanted him to come over for. If it was about his story and how much he's written thus far, he could've seen him at his office for that. Not his apartment. But he wasn't in the mood to complain or argue. He just agreed to go see him. Their 'friendship' was a struggle. It was better than staying angry at him the entire time. Sho never liked being angry with anyone, yet he would express it if anyone said or did anything to his displeasure. That hadn't been the case with Yuuto as of yet. It's been more awkward than anything. After about a twenty-minute bus right, he'd reached the apartment complex Yuuto lived in. He was familiar with it because both Sadie, Hitoshi, and Ryu lived here as well, just in different areas. Yuuto lived close to the front entrance, so it didn't take Sho long to reach his apartment. He rang the doorbell while waiting for an answer.

Within less than a minute, he was greeted by Yuuto and his friendly pet cat Sarada. "H-Hi," Sho responded awkwardly, as he entered the other's apartment. He made sure to remove his shoes before proceeding further. He stopped and turned to face Yuuto whilst removing his backpack. "What did you want me to come over for?" Sho asked. He didn't ignore Yuuto speaking with his cat, reassuring her that Sho would play with her after they finished eating. Sho hadn't planned to make this visit long. However, since he was far away from where he lived, it might end up being that way if he spent the entire time preparing food. He didn't think Yuuto would do this much for him to come over. How strange.

Yuuto is surprised that Shouta agreed to meet him at his home.  He knows he hasn’t earned Sho’s trust just yet.  He did to a certain extinct since they are here together.  Yuuto is aware he has a long way to go and he is okay with that.  He sighs on the inside knowing there is nothing he can do to change the past.  All he can do is move forward.  Yuuto feels his thoughts of Shouta are almost unhealthy as he refuses to let him go.

He went all out this evening.  He knows Shouta is going to probably get on him for this.  He wanted to cook for them.  Yuuto cooked a chicken stir fry with a side of rice.  Yuuto also took the time to make veggie egg rolls which he cooked in his air fryer.  Yuuto was surprised how easy the recipe was.  Yuuto is dressed casually in some jeans and a tee shirt.  He would wear some sweatpants but didn’t want to look like he rolled out of bed.  Yuuto’s nerves begin to kick in making him want to drink.  Sarada senses her owner is on edge walking over rubbing against his leg.  Yuuto bends down picking her up.

“I won’t be having a drink Sarada,” he says softly.  Yuuto recalls Shouta not being a big drinker.  Although he has several reasons to not be drinking.  One being he doesn’t want to become too relaxed.  Two, his mind also tends to wander to strange places when alcohol is in his system around Shouta.  Yuuto shakes his head kissing Sarada's clean furr.  “Should we light some candles?  Do you think he would see that as a romantic gesture?  I mean it’s not but….”  Yuuto sentence is cut short by a knock at the door.  Of course Shouta is on time.  Sarada meows as Yuuto places her back on the ground.  She follows him to the door as if she doesn’t want to leave him alone.

Shouta has been busy.  He is focused on his classes as well as his comic.  Yuuto didn’t realize a comic book con was coming into town.  He has never attended one.  This year he can go with someone he knows will enjoy it along side him.  Shouta may protest but Yuuto will cover everything on the trip.  He feels excited thinking about it.  He should calm down as Shouta still needs to say yes.

Yuuto takes a deep breath inhaling the scent of the meal he prepared.  The only light on in the apartment is his side table lamp and the kitchen light.  It looks cozy and relaxing in his personal opinion.  Yuuto opens the door with a small smile.

“Hi Shouta, thanks for coming,” he says stepping aside allowing Shouta to enter his home.  He swiftly closes the door locking it.  Sarada meows looking at Sho.  Yuuto glances at Sarada.  “Thanks for greeting him.  Let him eat and maybe he will play with you later.”  Yuuto drops down petting Sarada making her purr.  Yuuto stands back up as Sarada walks off into the living room.  “Sorry about that.  How was your day?”
